Transforming Your Basement into a Home Theater
by David Cooper
Everybody loves to be entertained, so the fact that home theaters are one of
the most popular ways to redesign your basement should not be any surprise.
There are so many consumer electronics equipment options available that
homeowners can easily design a fantastic space that is sure to be the hit of the
neighborhood.
Most homeowners will spend a great deal of time making sure they pick out a
fantastic sound system, with a huge plasma TV and all of the other goodies
needed to create an incredible home theater, but a lot of people do not take a
great deal of time thinking about the furniture and how it will be set up in
your basement home theater. This can be a huge mistake.
Many homeowners have a dilemma when it comes to transforming your basement into
a home theater. A lot of high end furniture is not designed to accommodate
electronics. Cheap furniture will often make your home theater look more like a
dorm room.
Don't like either one of those options? Then here are some tips to help you
transform your basement into a magnificent home theater that you will be proud
to show off.
- Make sure that you have extra deep shelves. A lot of the consumer
electronic equipment that make you were home theater stunning are simply
too deep for ordinary shelving. You need to make sure you have a minimum
of 22 inches.
- Make sure that you purchase or build units of furniture that can
accommodate the wires necessary for your electronic equipment. Having
bunches of dangling wires is very unattractive. In addition to being ugly,
it can also be a fire hazard. Make sure that all of the furniture you use
should have been in close channel for wires in the back.
- If you use a wall mount for a flat screen plasma TV, make sure that
you get the proper wall mount. You need to make sure that you get one that
will work with any flatscreen TV and one that can be adjusted easily if
you need to adjust it.
- You also need to make sure that there is some type of ventilation
system for your electronic equipment. Do not keep your equipment locked
away in a cabinet so it can overheat. Make sure you have the proper
ventilation so your electronic equipment lasts as long as it should.
Another thing to consider, after you have chosen your flat screen TV and your
stereo equipment, is whether or not you want to install some type of
communication system in your basement home theater. Since your basement is on a
separate level from the rest of the house and it also will be filled with noisy
sound equipment, having an intercom system is a good idea.
By taking some time to make sure that you have the proper furniture to
accommodate all of your electronic equipment, you will get the most enjoyment
out of your home theater system and you will ensure the longevity of your
electronics.
