Creating a Basement Party and Game Room
by David Cooper
You can transform your basement into a fantastic party room. Basements
are often wide-open areas that have a lot of square footage. This makes them
ideal for having a combination of a bar and a party room.
There are a few items that are fairly standard when it comes to having a
room that is specifically for entertaining.
- A large TV - this is especially important if you're planning on having
a large number of people come over to watch television. Nothing is worse
than going over to someone's house to watch a sporting event or a movie
and having to squint at the screen. You also need to make sure that you
have the television mounted high enough so that everyone in the room can
see it. If you have it on an entertainment center, that's fine as long as
someone in the back of the room does not have his view blocked by the head
of the person in front of him. If you are in doubt, get a universal wall
mount and mount the television properly on the wall.
- An awesome stereo system - not only do you want to be able to crank up
the tunes when you need to, but you also want to be able to hook your
television into your stereo system for the best surround sound possible.
Just as someone does not want to have their view blocked by having a
television that is not easily seen, they do not want to have to strain to
hear what is going on. Having a stereo system that can broadcast your
surround sound is just a given.
- Plenty of furniture to sit - you need to make an area comfortable when
it is going to have a lot of people in there. Having lots of comfortable
furniture that is oversized and overstuffed will make the area of very
inviting, especially for couples. Nothing is worse than going to a party
and having uncomfortable chairs to sit in - or having no chairs to sit in.
- A pool table or a gaming system - depending on the age of your
friends, most party rooms will have some type of competition available.
Sometimes this will come in the form of a pool table. Other crowds prefer
to have some type of video game system. The choice is yours, but you need
to make sure that any type of competition is away from the television
viewing area, if possible. People can tend to get very rowdy and noisy
when they are competing, and this might not set well with someone who's
trying to watch the football game on television.
- A wet bar - having a bar that also comes equipped with a faucet means
you do not have to make trips up and down stairs in order to mix drinks.
- A refrigerator - this is another addition that will keep your trips up
and down the stairs to a minimum.
You can transform your basement into an incredible party room. All you
have to do is keep in mind what type of crowd you are going to be catering
to.
